Divided States of America by ThaDrummer Divided States of America by ThaDrummer
These Divided States..

THE UNTHINKABLE HAS HAPPENED These United States, has balkanized beyond recognition. Either by some circumstance, by war, disagreement, or peaceful means, new national entities are carved up through unique situations, allying with some or in conflict with others.

The 31-state United States of America is still a viable regional power, but a far cry from the superpower and cultural hegemony of it's predecessor, bearing a dim resemblance in name and flag only. The Divided States of America is a staple in alternate and speculative history, though there have been dangerously close calls.

The states that were once the US of A, in spite of the circumstances of breaking up, declare themselves the successor to it, it's values, influence and culture. Yes, even their constitution and regional partitions are modeled after their Federal father, albeit with a twist.

With regards to the nature of relationships between the "children of America", there are three power blocs or alliances that constitute these relationships; the Union Bloc, The Southern Alliance and the Pacific Social Democratic Cooperation.

The Union bloc, led by Washington DC, favors mutual cooperation between them and the territories that they 'let go'. The Southern Alliance is an on-again, off-again agreement between the conservative CSA and New Africa. We can say they are vitriolic best buds. The PSDC led by California, aims to promote, develop and innovate ideas of liberalism, socialism and social democracy.

Conflicts do arise in these divided states. For one, Texas and Aztlan cannot agree on the control of West Texas, while Deseret is in open conflict with Cascadia over a part of former Idaho.

- Designed new flags for Aztlan and New York.

- named their sub-national entities.

(June 13, 2016) - New flags. :<

This is confusing.

Interesting map and more interesting scenario. I don't think anyone here in Utah would go for naming our capital "Mormonopolis" though. ;)

I agree. looking back, it's quite trite. I might think of something else for a revision. :)

This is good. I'm also working on a divided U.S. that took me 2 months.

the nation looks good, I'll admit DAT flag is also good, IDK why but a nation that's not a city-state like San Marino, and is large and is surrounded by just one nation just makes me cringe for some reason.

I feel the same way about Lesotho. As well as pretty much any enclave/exclave existing in general.

Why are New York, Deseret, and the Vegas Coalition allied with each other?
ThaDrummer Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2017  Student General Artist
They're not in any coalition. They are independent.
InfernoMole Featured By Owner Dec 9, 2016

For some reason, Alaska and Hawaii don't seem to be in any alliance here - or they aren't shown. In which alliance they are?

Also, I suspect that Alaska is allied to Deseret due to them both being Perpetually Pissed About the Tree-Hugging Cascadians Stealing Their Lands. Yeah.

Is rump-USA basically the Russia to the old-USA's Soviet Union?
ThaDrummer Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2016  Student General Artist
Yep. And it's run by Chelsea Trump..

You can consider New York a divided state. NYC and Long Island would go do their own thing while upstate NY does its own thing. Because right now, it's a dictatorship since NYC controls the politics FOR THE ENTIRE STATE.
InfernoMole Featured By Owner Aug 25, 2016
Why aren't Hawaii and Alaska included in the bloc map?
gammaking Featured By Owner Edited Jun 29, 2016
May I suggest moving the US capital from DC to Philadelphia, Chicago, or Columbus, OH? Because having your national capital on the border of what I can only assume is an aggressive military power is just bad planning.
ThaDrummer Featured By Owner Jun 30, 2016  Student General Artist
Shhh..(they did move their most important centers of administration elsewhere, the White House is practically a facade in this timeline) And Richmond is in their crosshairs though. MAD all over again. Or, imagine the same situation as Seoul and Pyongyang. If the CSA attacks, insta-nukes.

You do have a good point though.

You know the funny thing? This is damn near close to the real thing LOL!
ludomastro Featured By Owner Jan 16, 2016
The Holy State of Deseret would likely have a honey bee on the flag.  Assuming the religion is similar to the OTL version at least.  Otherwise, interesting.

Late reply tho.

I'm going to upload these finalized flags later on. ^^

Hardly unthinkable. The way the US is going it could one day end up as something like this.
kolroling Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2016
Did you know that the "Lakotah Nation" already exist.
And is fighting for international recognition since 1877 to to this day.
MelvWolfe Featured By Owner Oct 4, 2016  Hobbyist General Artist
Yep, they recognized their nation per treaty and then later convieniently forgot all about it to allow Miners to exploit the area.
Funny how quickly the US became the type of nation they declared independence from.

Finally!  Chicago is it's own state.

Wish the flags matched the colors of territories on the map.

I think former Utah would only call itself "Deseret", with out the extra title words, otherwise this is very well thought out.

Why is Vermont separate from New England?
AlternateHistory Featured By Owner Oct 27, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
There's is actually an existing movement in Vermont, albeit small, to become independent from the US. This is because Vermont was actually an independent nation during the late 1700's that was later annexed by the US. Using this reasoning, it's not that crazy to think that Vermont would attempt to become independent in a situation like this.
PrincessElemix Featured By Owner Oct 27, 2015
Well being independent from the us would make sense but not New England.

They profess to be a united nation of freedom and justice for all but do not uphold their promises, they do not defend their ideals. I shall hope that there will come a day, that unlike those who wrote the constitution and those who follow it that there will come a day of true freedom, true justice, true respect and self dignity. For even those who devised it, made the promise to make it so but still allowed segregation, desecration, discrimination and indignation to run rampant. This nation has become not a shell of its former self, but a magnification of it's own negative result. Technology grows ever at the rise, the other nations are catching and US of A still goes to slow a pace to keep steady. It's effect on our lives has been severe, as the more connected we become, the more isolated we become. I hold this Nation up to its promises, I hold it up to its creed, I hold it up to its code. For until that day men and women, of all places shall never know true freedom until tyrants are befelled and the people unite not under banners, nations, flags, faiths or causes but under the emotions of compassion, brotherhood, love, mercy, empathy, dignity, respect, determination, joy and understanding. For I hold it self evident that all men and women are created equal.

Just a few comments. Although both Jacinto and Lincoln were proposed states, the way you split up Texas would be extremely unlikely if this occurred with modern sensibilities. If not, then ignore me, but your states of Austin, Lincoln, and the Panhandle would be unlike. The easiest fix would be to combine Austin and Lincoln and extend the border of "Panhandle" south by at least double the territory. The "Panhandle" would probably be named either "Llano" or "Lamar". Whats left of Austin and Lincoln could realistically go by either name, but "Brazos" or "Brazoria" would also be likely names. Just my two cents.
